Amnesty International - Death Penalty Numbers

The well known NGO asked me to re-interpret and bring their graphic designs to life for their yearly flagship video.

For this project I animated and reinterpreted a series of still illustrations created by the ngo’s graphic designer, developing a motion language that brought the artwork to life while preserving its original visual identity and striking eloquence.

We worked against the clock as timing was key to the publishing of the video that came out alongside their yearly report on the death penalty as a global issue. This also meant we only got the final numbers towards the end of the creative process having to keep the designs somewhat open to tweaks until the very end.

On the right, one of the graphic designs used a starting point. Below, some frames from the storyboarding process.

Additional scenes were created using textured cutout collage techniques to illustrate specific countries and individual stories, complementing the film’s bold, minimalist visual language while adding moments of nuance and human context.
